Frequently asked questions

Do you hold any environmental certifications?

We have been certified with the USDA BioPreferred® Program as having 60% biobased content for our underwear product and 52% for its packaging by a third party verification lab.

Biobased products help address climate change by

  • offering renewable alternatives to petroleum-based products;
  • sequester carbon dioxide, lowering the concentration of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere that contribute to climate change;
  • create and expand markets;
  • are generally safer for people and the environment than their petroleum-based counterparts;
  • and represent incredible technological advances and innovations.

The USDA Certified Biobased Product Label displays a product's biobased content, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source, such as plant, animal, marine, or forestry feedstocks. Utilizing renewable biobased materials displaces the need for non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals. Biobased products are cost-comparative, readily available, and perform as well as or better than their conventional counterparts.

What materials do you use?
  • TENCEL™ - a branded Lyocell cellulose fiber created by Lenzing AG. TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are derived from wood and pulp that is sourced and harvested from sustainably managed forests. Produced at a specialized production site in Austria, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers have been certified with the EU Ecolabel for textile products (license no. AT/016/001) as meeting high environmental standards throughout their life cycle: from raw material extraction to production, distribution and disposal. TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers have gained a commendable reputation for their environmentally responsible, closed loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into cellulosic fibers with high resource efficiency and low environmental impact. This solvent-spinning process recycles water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%. All TENCEL™ standard Lyocell fibers are biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil and marine conditions, thus they can fully revert back to nature.

  • Elastane - the generic term used to describe branded textiles such as Lycra, also called spandex. Its primary attribute is its elasticity. Elastane is composed of a long chain polymer known as polyurethane, and is known in technical circles as a polyether-polyurea copolymer. Elastane is an entirely synthetic fabric; no organic materials are used to make this substance, and it does not exist anywhere in nature. Therefore it is not biodegradable within a human lifetime.CASSAVACassava is a perennial woody shrub native to South America and is extensively cultivated as an annual crop in tropical and subtropical regions for its edible starchy tuberous root, a major source of carbohydrates.

  • Cassava - predominantly consumed in boiled form, but substantial quantities are used to extract cassava starch, called tapioca, which is used for food, animal feed, and industrial purposes. The film bags used to protect each garment during shipping are made from cassava starch and are biodegradable and compostable under home conditions in months, contain no petroleum, and are Non toxic.
